Doing Business in Japan

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Japan is actively involved in promoting trade and investment. The Embassy promotes Japanese investments in the Netherlands by linking Japanese and Dutch knowledge and technology, assisting the Dutch business community on the Japanese market and economic diplomacy.

The Economic Department provides assistance to the Dutch business community to set up and promote their business on the Japanese market by providing them with information and organizing trade-promotional events.

They look after the business interest of members of the Dutch business community who might be hindered by trade barriers and provide information on the Netherlands to relevant parties in Japan in order to promote Dutch economic interest in Japan. In addition, the Economic Department informs the Dutch government on the Japanese economy, which is important for our bilateral relationship.

The Economic Department offers the following services to companies:

  • Answering your trade questions
  • Organising business seminars
  • Preparing market reports
  • Providing market information
  • Introducing you to potential partners
  • Advisory talks with Dutch entrepreneurs who are new on the Japanese market
  • Supporting your trade fairs participation and trade missions
  • Informing you about the (financial) instruments
  • Introducing you to a network of (commercial) third parties who can take you to the next step.

With the aim of promoting cooperation in research and development between Japan and the Netherlands, the Innovation Department has the task to provide information and assistance to the private sector, research institutions, universities and government in the Netherlands by monitoring developments in science and technology in Japan.

By providing Japanese companies with information, assistance and general consultation, the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) promotes the Netherlands as a basis for international/European activities and assists Japanese companies considering setting up a new subsidiary or expanding an existing company.
