New sector report on maritime industry in Japan
In recent years the worldwide maritime shipbuilding and offshore structure sector find themselves in dire straits. Orders for new ships have collapsed, the oil price has drastically decreased and ocean freight rates are at a historic low. Despite all this, Japan is looking hard at ways to escape these negative trends. The Netherlands mission in Japan has therefore published a sector report on the shipbuilding and offshore structure building industry in Japan to take a closer look at these efforts.
The report gives an overview of the Japanese shipbuilding/offshore structure industry in general, and also contains the latest trends in the Japanese shipbuilding industry. Despite the wellknown malaise in the worldwide sector of the past few years, the report has identified a few areas where Dutch companies may find opportunities in the Japanese sector.
