Getting married in the Netherlands
We are Dutch nationals, and we live and work abroad. But we want to marry in the Netherlands. Is that possible?
Dutch people who live outside the Netherlands can marry in the Netherlands, but they first have to give notice of their intention to marry (‘ondertrouw’), in person or in writing, to the municipality of The Hague. When you do so, you must submit certain documents, such as both your birth certificates and information concerning your civil status. You also have to state in which municipality the marriage is to take place.
